Designed & built in 1970, this unique rustic home has multiple levels of decks, all with mountain, water and sunset views!
This architecturally unique & rustic vacation home was designed and built by Selby & Maureen Turner in the early 1970s. Now lovingly maintained by their children, the Tree House holds an eclectic mix of treasures and tales. Built around three large metal cylinders, the house is accessed by an outdoor staircase below & has ladders up to two levels of decks. While the house sits among the trees, the top deck is tall enough to peer over the treetops and out across the lake. Nestled in the woods on a bluff & you can fall asleep listening to the lapping of the water on the rocks below.
Located on the Head of Isle La Motte, the decks provide sweeping views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains, as well as beautiful summer sunsets. Nearly every room in the house has views of the lake! The living room was designed to allow for lake views, as well as a relaxing open floorplan into the dining area and kitchen. The lower deck is a sweet spot for sipping your morning coffee & the upper deck is where you'll want to be to enjoy cocktails at the end of the day, taking in the panoramic views of Lake Champlain & Adirondack Mountains!
The kitchen comes equipped with all the necessary utensils, pots & pans, cutlery, plates and glasses needed for your stay. (See notes in "Amenities" below.) Enjoy dining at the large dining table inside overlooking the lake, or at the new bistro table on the lower deck. There are also a few local restaurants within a 45 minute drive, should you want to take the night off from cooking. (We provide a binder with a list of local options, as well as helpful house information.)
A beloved resting spot for the Turner family for the last 50+ years, there isn't a neighbor in sight. The house offers 3 bedrooms, with a capacity to sleep 6 people. There is 1 bathroom with a shower. Due to limited access to a washer & dryer on the property (no washer & dryer in the house), we ask that Guests bring all their own bedding & towels. We do offer extra blankets & pillows.
This is a true RUSTIC getaway out in the woods. There is an analogue TV with antennae, and a DVD & VHS player for the chance of a rainy day. Puzzles & board games can also be found on the shelves. (We do now have wifi internet, though.)
An outdoor enthusiast's dream - the Turner property has miles of trails for hiking, biking or walking. A rocky beach, lovingly dubbed "Flat Rocks" by our family, is located about a mile down the Turner property's trails. (The abutting cliffs are too steep to climb down to swim & too shallow to jump off of!) This beach offers a lovely area to relax & swim. (Swim shoes advised!) If you are looking to bring a kayak or paddleboard, we can direct you to where you can carry in/carry out down a path off the Tree House's dirt driveway. The property is shared with both the family and guests of the Turner Farmhouse, so you might bump into someone on the trails or Flat Rocks.
Want to bring your boat & go fishing? There is a public boat access a few miles down the road. Want to go road biking? Hop on one of the loops of the Champlain Islands Bikeways & take in the Lake Champlain Islands! Want to check out some cool fossils? Visit the Goodsell Ridge Preserve and Fisk Quarry Preserve just down the road on Isle La Motte!
